Training

Hide Section Training Philosophy

For several reasons, WFDSS is a different kind of tool, and you will be using it differently than a typical software application.

  1. As you can see from looking at the different user roles, using WFDSS requires a variety of skills.
  2. You will likely use the system very intensely during fire season and then not as much in the off-season.
  3. You might not even have a need to use WFDSS for several fire seasons.

For these reasons, and the fact that traditional in-person training is very expensive, such classroom style training is not planned for WFDSS.

Instead, we will be using a combination of e-learning and coaching to assist users in getting the most out of WFDSS. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Training modules will be available online
  • Real-time distance learning seminars will be scheduled
  • Small group coaching sessions will be used for the most skill intensive WFDSS roles.

Hide Section Training Schedule

The WFDSS team is still working on the requirements and schedule for the training. Webinars are planned for the week of June 9-13, 2008 for fire behavior specialists. The exact schedule will be published as soon as it becomes available

If you are familiar with the desktop applications for the fire behavior modeling applications, many of the data entry pages in WFDSS will be familiar to you.
